The exact genetics of Granddaddy Purple are somewhat debated. It is commonly described as a cross involving Mendocino Purps, Skunk, and an Afghani indica, while some sources report Big Bud × Purple Urkle as its lineage. Regardless of the exact genetic history, GDP inherited the unmistakable grape and berry character associated with classic Purple cultivars.

One of the strain’s biggest attractions is its distinctive flavor and aroma. Granddaddy Purple commonly delivers rich grape, berry, and violet notes, accompanied by an earthy herbal undertone.
